GUIDELINES FOR PASSPORT APPLICATION SERVICES AFTER SYSTEM CHALLENGES
Reference is made to the subject above.
The Tanzania Immigration Department experienced system issues resulting in the unavailability of electronic services this year 2026, as per our public notice dated March 4, 2026.
Currently, electronic services have resumed both domestically and abroad for Visas, Passports, and Emergency Travel Documents.
Because of this issue, some applications were not processed, and affected applicants did not receive passports. These applicants are advised to re-apply on the online passport application system. Payment arrangements will be notified once complete.
For those who re-applied and paid twice, they must write a formal letter requesting a refund for their initial payment, attaching proof of both payments alongside their local bank details in Tanzania.
Note that bank account details must be for a local bank in Tanzania (TZA Local Bank), and refunds will be issued in Tanzanian Shillings (TZS) equivalent to the USD paid.
Attached is a sample application letter for refund requests to serve as a guide.
Embassy offices abroad are requested to notify applicants of these steps.:-
Please see the attached sample forms for dispute claims.
